Since the 1990s, they have resorted more and more to financial devices: speculative profits and debt-driven consumption and production.

Organizers announce plans to confront G20 in Pittsburgh PDF Print E-mail

Organizers from the Bail Out the People Movement and the Million Worker March Movement held a news conference here on June 26 at the United Nations Church Center, along with other community organizers and some of the participants at the U.N. Economic Summit. They announced plans for protests at the next G20 summit scheduled in Pittsburgh on Sept. 24-25.

The world is now in the grip of the worst capitalist crisis since the Great Depression that continues to deepen and cause untold misery to millions of people across the globe. The political elites are desperately searching for ways out of this current crisis while denying that there is anything fundamentally wrong with the prevailing economic system. They have thrown trillions of dollars of public money to bailout failing financial institutions, revive the flow of credit and restore investors’ confidence in the markets – to no avail.

Image: NYCHRPNew York-- Upon news of the announcement of the postponement of the United Nations Conference on the World Economic and Financial Crisis and its Impact on Development from June 1-3 to June 24-26 in New York, Filipino-American groups Anakbayan New York/New Jersey and NY Committee for Human Rights in the Philippines (NYCHRP) joined allies in sponsoring an outdoor People's Economic Summit in front of the Manhattan UN Headquarters. The purpose of the alternative Summit, organized by a grassroots network known as the Bail-Out the People Movement (BOPM), was to invite voices of the general concerned public to engage in an official discourse on the global economic crisis and its impact on people's struggles.
